OLDSMOKEY’S  (PNWFSA) SCHOLARSHIP FUND

Scholarship General Information:

Old Smokeys have established a permanent college scholarship fund to assist deserving students who are directly related to current Old Smokey members or are endorsed by an Old Smokey member.

One objective of the scholarship fund is to provide a donation opportunity for member
s and families, friends, and associates of the Old Smokeys who wish to honor and pay tribute to a loved one.

Old Smokeys are dedicated to supporting the many avenues of natural resource careers and to the development of promising young people who are related or connected to Old Smokeys.

Donors play a significant role in achieving this goal.  Please consider supporting this program.

How to Donate:

There are two ways to donate:

The amount of the donation will be kept confidential, but the total of donations will be published in the quarterly newsletter.

As a reminder, the PNWFSA (OldSmokeys) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization and all donations are deductible to the fullest extent of the law. Please consult your tax advisor regarding specific questions about your tax deductions.

How to apply for a Scholarship:

To apply, please prepare the following:

  1. Download and complete the application form. You can type in the information on your computer. Once it is filled out, print it, sign and submit with the below information.

  2. Prepare a typewritten personal letter describing...
    a. Your career goals and plans for advanced education.
    b. Interests, school activities, and other community and/or volunteer experiences.
    c. Include a statement about what you plan to accomplish in your chosen career.
    d. Describe why you think National Forests and public lands in general are important from a resource, environmental, and/or social point  of view.
    e. The importance of having this support for your education (including financial considerations).
    f. Please limit the letter to 750 words single spaced.

  3. Attach two letters of recommendations.

  4. Applications must be received no later than February 15. A selection committee will evaluate the applications and award the scholarships by May 15.

  5.  The scholarship stipend will up to $1,500 each.

  6. Scholarship money will be paid directly the student's chosen education institution upon proof of matriculation (i.e. a registration receipt).

  7. Send the application form, two (2) letters of recommendation and the signed personal letter to
