It’s easy to find out.
The Bureau of Labor Statistics has a handy little
“Inflation Calculator”—and a lot of other things on their web page. If you run out of things to do someday log on
to:
http://www.bls.gov/cpi/ (just click the link and it will re-direct you
there)
And then scroll down the page to where it says “Get
Detailed Statistics”. The first item in
that category is labeled “Inflation Calculator”,
click on that and a little calculator pops up on your monitor.
You can plug in any number for any year since 1913,
and it will compute the buying power in today’s dollars. It works going either forward or backward in
time and for any combination of years…Bob
